Description:
This low cost, 117-137 MHz
Aircraft Band Receiver was designed to receive and decode
ACARS data via PC control. The receiver consists of a
tracking input bandpass filter, single conversion mixing
stage, Crystal and Ceramic IF filter stages, PLL synthesized
LO, RF / IF AGC circuits, data slicing circuit, audio output
stage -- all controlled by a PIC Microcontroller. The
interface to the PC is via a 9600 Baud RS232 link. A
complete Visual Basic program was also written to control
the receiver from any PC. During development live signals
were recorded from the air to a PC and fed into the data
slicing circuit to optimize it's performance, this
simulation technique saves many hours as data signals can be
repeated and changed at will instead of depending solely on
off the air signals. Test procedures and test programs were
written that allow even a high level manager to be able to
align and test the finished product.
