Description:
This receiver was designed
to precisely measure communication channel power over a 90
dB or greater range. This is useful for monitoring and
installation of radio communication systems. The basic
design can be adapted to the low VHF region through 6 GHz. A
TCXO and PLL synthesizer assure accurate frequency setting,
while a precision Logarithmic Amplifier (Log Amp) detection
scheme allows measuring signals down to -120 dBm. Adjacent
channel rejection is excellent due to the 8 pole crystal IF
filtering. Digital modulation signals (noise like) are
precisely measured by the precision Log Amp detector.
Firmware corrects to the actual channel power once the
modulation type is known.
The receiver can be
connected to a PC or 10/100 LAN to provide data logging and
operation from a simple Graphical User Interface (GUI). The
on board firmware can be configured to take action on a
signal level or it can even be configured to send an Email
based on signal conditions. The LAN based receiver can serve
up web pages of measurements anywhere in the world where
there is a LAN connection.
Channel scanning (or
"Spectrum Analyzer Mode") also allows for frequency
surveillance, interferer identification and channel
utilization studies to be performed, operating in either a
either stand alone - data logging mode or under PC
control.
For manufacturing ease - the
design uses standard, low cost packaging and shielding, thus
avoiding large commitments on machining which can run many
times the basic electronics cost.
