Virtual Instruments
A "Virtual Instrument" usually contains all the signal processing of a traditional standalone instrument except
the display and user interface, storage and many times the final signal processing. These functions are
exported via some communications link to a local or remote PC. Since a PC has excellent input, display,
storage and number crunching capabilities this allows superior customer interaction and functionality along
with a lower total cost for the instrument.

Many modern systems, both small and large are built with virtual instrumentation blocks and a single PC to
process, store and display the data.

We have extensive experience with both low speed and high speed virtual instrumentation design and
communication links including,

    Serial / RS422 / RS485
    USB
    LAN
    SPI / I2C / CAN / LIN
(These can be used, but are less likely than Serial, USB or LAN)
    POTS Telephone MODEM

Functionally we have designed many
virtual instrument blocks including,

DC - 20 GHz Frequency Synthesizers

    Signal Sources
    Network Analyzers

    RF / Microwave Up-converter and Down-converters
    Measuring and control instruments
    Data Acquisition Modules
    IQ Modulators and De-Modulators
Remote RF and Microwave Control and Monitoring Receivers
